چکیده

A total of 56 selection indices were computed in Brown strain of Japanese quail based on the body weights at 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks of age with its dams AFE, dams EP16, dams EW16 and dams EM16. The aggregate genetic gain (δH) expected from the selection indices constructed with dams performance, of body weights at different ages ranged from 0.28 to 90.22, 0.71 to 99.58, 0.69 to 90.27 and 1.69 to 65.99 respectively. The egg mass is repeated in all the indices combinations. The heritability of the indices under the study was observed to be ranged from 0.03 to 0.89. The ideal indices identified were I52, expected to reduce the body weight by 0.11 g, but increase the egg production by 2.50 eggs and eggmass by1.83 g.

Response to Selection for Body Weight in Japanese Quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica)

The present studyinvestigated the impact of selection for body weight (BW) on productive performance, predicted BW and genetic improvement of related traits in Japanese quail. Base population, selected parent and F1 progeny were tested. Pens and cages were used for rearing and breeding. A total of 240 birds in two successive generations, 27 sires and 54 dams (as selected parents) were used. Bod...

Divergent selection for four-week body weight in Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica): response to selection and realized heritability

The Japanese quail has been utilized as a research species in establishing the genetic relationships that may also be present in other species. Divergent phenotypic selection for 4-wk BW was conducted for three generations in high (HW) and low (LW) lines. Within each line, 50 females and 25 males were selected among 600 birds, based on 4-wk BW. Mean BW at 4 wk of age in the base generation was ...

Effects of Genetic and Non-genetic Factors on Body Weight and Carcass Related Traits in Two Strains of Japanese Quails

The current study was conducted to investigate the effects of genetic and non-genetic factors on body weight and carcass traits of Japanese quails. Two strains of Japanese quail (150 wild quails and 150 white quails) were used as base population. Four mating groups were used to produce progenies: wild male × wild female, white male × wild female, wild male × white female and white male × white ...

Comparision of Direct and Indirect Response to Selection for Breast Weight in Japanese Quail

This study was carried out to investigate the direct and indirect responses to selection for four-week body weight (4 week body (wk BW)) and four-week breast weight (4 week breast weight (wk BRW)) and to determine the genetic contribution of reminder founders to the last generation. A total number of 351 birds were equally allocated to three lines, including two selected lines (S1 and S2 for BW...
